HISTORY

Today’s Club de Yates Los Cabos was brought into existence back in 2006 from the inspiration and effort of several local residents who wanted to create sailing opportunities for locals and visitors to Baja Sur. The original government documents creating the club were filed in 2005 and a year later at the local marina in Cabo San Lucas the group assembled 3 “J-24” sailboats and 7 Optimist Dingys for youth sailing instruction and friendly race competition. The fleet attracted several instructors along the way that introduced the skills of sailing to many of our local youth.  Later, in 2010, the sailing school within the club, “UpWind Sailing”, was generously offered space at the Puerto Los Cabos Marina in San Jose Del Cabo. Today the school continues to provide sailing instruction programs for local students and individual adult instruction. The current school fleet has expanded to include 9 Optimist Dingys, 4 Olympic Laser boats, the flagship Catalina 22 and 2 inflatable coach boats. While the sailing school has continued, the development of the actual yacht club has suffered growing pains and had minimal activity until recently energized and re-organized in 2022. Currently the Club de Yates Los Cabos has created a new board of officers and is actively engaging and seeking new members who want to see the club gain full certification and create an active clubhouse of its own at our local docks. Now, with a temporary clubhouse location and hats, burgees, and logo shirts available, the Club is offering official Club Membership Cards with the full benefits of membership.  The course is now clear and the sails set for the establishment of our own Club de Yates Los Cabos at Baja California Sur.
